In Their Own Words

Karen W.

British expat, Silom · April 2026

"The household numbers workshop was the first time I had properly sat down with our actual monthly figures rather than my rough mental estimate of them. The worksheet made it straightforward to see where the gaps were between what I thought we spent and what we actually spent."

Senior engineer, Bangkok · April 2026

"I had been putting off looking at my provident fund statements for years because I didn't really understand what they were telling me. After the fund reading programme, I can work through a factsheet without feeling lost. The glossary they provide is genuinely useful — I still refer to it."

Linda T.

Secondary school teacher · March 2026

"I attended the retirement transition programme eighteen months before I actually planned to leave work. That timing made a real difference — I had enough time to act on what I learned rather than scrambling through it in the last few weeks. The section on Social Security timing was particularly helpful."

"What I valued most was that nobody was trying to sell me anything. Every financial conversation I had been in before this one involved someone who wanted to put me into a product. This was completely different. It was just information, clearly presented."

Civil servant, Ladprao · April 2026

"The two sessions went by quickly, but the worksheet gave me something concrete to take home and think through further. I ended up completing a second version of it about three weeks later with more accurate numbers. That, I think, was the point — it starts a process rather than finishing one."

Business owner, Thonglor · March 2026

"I've held Thai mutual funds for several years but had never really understood what the factsheets were telling me beyond the headline figures. The fund reading programme changed that. Prawit explains things patiently and without condescension. The small group size meant questions were answered properly, not brushed past."

Three Case Studies

Case Study One — Household Numbers Workshop

The starting point

A 52-year-old university administrator who had been making rough mental estimates of her household finances for years. She knew broadly that her spending exceeded a comfortable level, but had never pinned down which category was the issue.

The workshop

She attended the two-session household numbers workshop and completed the worksheet individually during the sessions. The facilitator worked through the occasional-outgoings section with her, which was where the gap between her estimate and her actual figures was most pronounced.

The result

A clear monthly picture with three areas identified for review. She returned to her completed worksheet four months later and noted that two of those areas had changed materially as a result of decisions she had made with her partner based on what the worksheet had shown.

"I'd been telling myself I just needed to earn a bit more. The worksheet showed me that wasn't actually the problem."

Case Study Two — Fund Reading Programme

The starting point

A 47-year-old engineer with three separate mutual fund holdings accumulated across different employers. He received quarterly factsheets for all three but could not reliably read the risk and performance sections in context.

The programme

He attended four evening sessions of the fund reading programme. By session three, he was able to read through a factsheet independently and identify the sections relevant to his questions before the group discussion.

The result

Significantly greater comfort with his fund documents. He subsequently arranged a meeting with a licensed advisor — not one introduced by Anong Finance — with a clearer set of specific questions to ask than he had been able to formulate previously.

"I'd been deferring the whole subject because I felt I didn't have enough knowledge to have a sensible conversation with an advisor. Now I do."

Case Study Three — Retirement Transition Programme

The starting point

A 58-year-old accountant planning to retire within eighteen months. She had a provident fund and Social Security contributions but was uncertain about the election choices she would need to make and when they would need to be made.

The programme

She attended four sessions of the retirement transition programme and worked through the planning workbook with specific reference to her own employment timeline. Sessions two and three — covering Social Security and provident fund elections — were particularly focused.

The result

A completed planning workbook and a clear understanding of the election timeline she needed to manage. She wrote to the facilitator four months later to note that she had submitted her provident fund election with confidence and found the process straightforward.

"The workbook is the thing I keep returning to. It's the most useful single document I've produced in the last ten years."
